Research has
shown that more than 30% of population (mostly women) are obese
and 64% (mostly men) have some excess weight. Menopausal women
are especially vulnerable to obesity, but overall the number
of overweight people is steadily increasing as well. Nowadays
people are eating more and more rich foods, which humans are
not genetically programmed to process. The human body is programmed
to synthesize energy-saving proteins, associated with our evolutionary
need to remain active in food gathering. Since it is now easier
to get food, it is less important to be active in getting it,
and so people become progressively less mobile.
Excess weight
A person is generally considered to be overweight if the value
of body-mass index (BMI) is 25 to 30. A BMI over 30 is a sign
of obesity. A BMI 20 to 25 is considered normal.

Diet:
According to the recent recommendations of International Obesity
Task Force, animal fats should constitute at most 10 % of
the daily diet. One should eat about 400 g fruits and vegetables
every day. It is better to select fruits that are not
very sweet, since fructose (sugar contained in fruits) is
a high-calorie ingredient. Specialists advise us to limit
consumption of table salt, since its excess promotes hypertension
and lipopexia. Daily allowance of salt should not be more
than 6 g.
Obesity is a cause of many diseases:
Obesity can cause such diseases as atherosclerosis, diabetes,
hypertension, coronary heart disease, heart rate disturbance,
and stroke. And obesity is one of contributory factors of
breast and colon cancer.
Obese people, especially women, suffer a higher incidence
of osteoporosis. For them, a supplementary intake of VITRUM®
CALCIUM + VITAMIN D3 provides good results. Excess weight
also causes the joints to be overly stressed, and this over
time leads to degenerative dystrophic changes in joint tissues,
and to osteoarthrosis - for which the chondroprotectors in
ARTHRON®
COMPLEX, ARTHRON®
CHONDREX, ARTHRON®
FLEX can be very effective as a supplementary therapy.
Those suffering from obesity or bad eating habits usually
suffer as well from disturbed metabolism, which can sometimes
lead to the so called "disease of kings" which we
call "gout: - the inflammation of small joints, caused
by urate deposition in joints. Gout attacks mainly metatarsophalangeal
joint of the big toe.
When those who suffer from obesity
consume excess calories and this surplus is deposited in the
form of excess adipose tissue in the body. This can be a sign
of hyper- or hypo-functioning in some glands, such as the
thyroid and the suprarenal gland cortex. Or it can be associated
with inherited predisposition. Corpulent parents often have
plump children. These factors almost invariably are affected
by environmental hazards like bad habits or an improper dietary
pattern. |
